Construction hard hats and construction helmets are now mandatory for people who want to work in the construction industry.
In addition, it’s common to see people wearing construction helmets in public.
But is it actually a good idea to wear construction helmets at work?
Is it safe?
The UK government has a new guideline that states that the construction of buildings is an important occupation, with a high risk of respiratory problems and heart disease, which can be fatal if not properly treated.
So, why should people wear construction hard hats when they’re actually in a construction site, and what should they be doing to protect themselves?
How does wearing a construction hardhat affect you?
The construction industry uses hard hats, or construction helmets, to protect the workers and their equipment.
They protect the hands and the neck from being crushed by the machinery, and they help the worker breathe.
The construction helmets can also provide protection from dust and debris.
According to the British Construction Association (BCA), the construction helmet can protect you from: – A cough, cold, wind or rain, and can be worn as a mask or over a shirt or trousers.
– Sweating or sweating with the helmet, which helps to cool the wearer’s body.
– Burning, or breathing through a hose, or getting too hot.
What’s the main concern?
According to Dr John Williams, an occupational medicine specialist at Royal Victoria Hospital in Glasgow, wearing a helmet is not a bad idea.
“I think it’s important to be careful in the short term,” he said.
“The main concern is that people have been wearing construction hardhats for years, and it’s been associated with lung damage.
And if you have any sort of breathing problem, such as a cough, you could also be at higher risk of a heart attack.
If you’re not using the helmet when you’re in a work site, you’re at greater risk.”
If you have a serious health problem or are working in an area where people are vulnerable, Dr Williams said, you should get help.
“It’s a really important thing to get medical attention and get to the point where you can stop working in that work site,” he added.
I’ve heard people say, ‘I don’t need to wear a helmet’.
What are my options?
Are you concerned about wearing a hardhat in public?
First of all, it depends on what you’re wearing.
If you don’t wear a hard hat, then it’s not a problem, and you don’st need to worry about wearing one, Dr James told BBC News.
There’s a lot of variation between manufacturers and brands.
A lot of people are wearing construction helmet, but the helmets are usually made by other companies.
For example, in Australia, there’s an industrial helmet company called The Team that has made helmets for a long time.
It’s also not the same as wearing a mask, according to Dr Williams.
“You should never wear a mask because it’s just making you more susceptible to disease,” he told BBC.
“And if it’s a bit uncomfortable for you, then you might want to consider wearing a jacket, which is better for your neck and for your breathing.”
Do you have concerns about respiratory risks?
If you do have any concerns, you can get in touch with a health professional.
