Construction managers at some of the world’s most prestigious construction sites earn a combined $2.7m (£1.9m) a year, according to a report from consultancy firm KPMG.
The firm says the average construction manager earns around $1.2m a year in the construction industry.
The figures are based on a survey of around 2,500 construction managers worldwide.
“The majority of the respondents to the KPMM survey are in construction or related industries,” KPMg’s senior projects manager Matt Brimstone told BBC Sport.
“These respondents are looking for the highest-paying construction jobs in their industry and are willing to pay a premium for them.”
The survey also revealed that the vast majority of construction managers are currently employed in full-time positions, which means they have a minimum of 12 months’ work experience and therefore are able to build and maintain their jobs on a regular basis.
“KPM, which surveyed a total of 1,000 employees from all around the world, found that the average career length for a construction manager is around 20 years.
The average construction director’s salary is around $3m a season.
KPM said that the construction management industry was a “very competitive industry” with “significant pay disparities”.
“For example, almost 60 per cent of those surveyed have worked in public or government positions.””
It’s no surprise that a significant proportion of the people who choose to work in construction are also employed in public sector roles,” Mr Brimstones said.
